Mary Rose Rutikanga was appointed as City Administrator for the City of Sonora on January 21, 2020. Prior to her appointment, she served as Deputy County Executive Officer for the County of Merced and was responsible for overseeing the county-wide budget, as well as public safety agencies such as the Merced County Sheriff’s Office and Probation Department. Mary Rose also worked as a Senior Administrative Analyst with the Calaveras County Administrative Office working in the capacity of budget and purchasing and procurement.
Mary Rose holds a Master’s of Public Administration in International Management from the Monterey Institute of International Studies, where she served as a Peace Corps Master’s International Student in the country of Rwanda from 2009-2011. She also has a Bachelor’s degree in Government from California State University, Sacramento.
A local Motherlode resident, Mary Rose is a Copperopolis native and proud graduate of Bret Harte High School. She looks forward to serving the people and businesses who call Sonora their home.
