On June 3, 2013 the City Council approved the Dragoon Gulch Master Trails Plan. The Plan details the expansion of the trail system, and other recreational facilities, within the adjacent 67. It was funded under the Community Transformation Grant Program through the Tuolumne County Public Health Department.

Environmental review, funded through the Tuolumne County Transportation Council, of the Dragoon Gulch Trail Expansion Project was completed in 2016 allowing the City to move forward with trail expantion.

The Dragoon Gulch Trail Expansion Projet- phase 1 was completed in 2018. The project added an addtional 1.5 miles of trails. the was funded through grants from the Sonora Area Fountain, Front Porch Fund and Trail Me About Fund and proceceds from the Annual Dragoon Gulch Run
