COVID-19 CHANGE IN SERVICE:  City Hall is open Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (closed for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.) and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. to conduct business inside the City of Sonora.  Submittals for residential and commercial plans and revisions can now be done in-person. Applications for re-roofing projects, electrical service changes, HVAC installations and residential solar projects that meet the Expedited Solar Permitting requirements can also be submitted via email to kcampbell@sonoraca.com. You may also fax applications to (209) 532-3511.  With prior arrangements, Email documents and PDF Plans can be sent to kcampbell@sonoraca.com and to Building@sonoraca.com, Building Inspector (Large PDF files should be sent to the Dropbox link below).

The Community Development Department provides a combination of Building and Planning services, as well as grant funded programs, projects and special events. The Department is overseen by the Community Development Director and 2 full-time employees. There are 2 part-time contracted employees, one providing plan check and inspection services and one who provides additional planning services. This Department is responsible for coordinating the enforcement of the California Building Code and related City Ordinances, Policies and Procedures concerning the construction of residential, commercial, or industrial projects within the City limits of Sonora. The Department provides this oversight through a plan check and inspection process that ensures that projects are designed and constructed according to code. This Department responds and assists in the resolution of inquiries and complaints related to a variety of health and safety concerns within the City.
