On June 3, 2013 the City Council approved the Dragoon Gulch Master Trails Plan. The Plan details the expansion of the trail system, and other recreational facilities, within the adjacent 67 acres owned by the City of Sonora. It was funded under the Community Transformation Grant Program through the Tuolumne County Public Health Department. The Plan was developed by Siegfried Engineering under the direction of the City of Sonora and the Tuolumne County Transportation Council. A series of public meetings were held to solicit input on the ultimate design of the trail system.
Environmental review, funded through the Tuolumne County Transportation Council, of the Dragoon Gulch Trail Expansion Project is currently underway. This will allow the project to proceed once funding has been identified. The Project will include additional natural surface trails and an accessible vista trail along with undulating and downhill trails. The existing 2.5 mile trail network will be expanded to 9.7 miles. Once completed, the expanded Dragoon Gulch Trail will create a destination experience that will draw walkers, hikers and bikers from around the region.
