Pile Pickup
The City of Sonora is happy to provide its' Pile Pick-Up
Program to its residents and property owners. The Public
Works Department hauls most of the green waste collected
through the program to the Cal Sierra Earth Resource
Facility, located off of Tuolumne Road. You can assist
the Public Works Department in making deliveries to the
resource facility by observing the following simple
guidelines.
1. Materials must be source
separated - brush, pruning, leaves or grass must be left for us in separate piles so that we can unload into
separate locations at the resource facility. If your
pile has not been source separated, we will leave a
hang-tag advising that it must be separated before we
will pick the pile up.
2. Do not place/hide garbage waste
materials in your piles - no paper, plastic bags,
pipe, metal objects, etc. We will not haul rock,
concrete, pavement, brick, stumps, or dirt to the
resource facility. If your pile contains any of the
above, we will leave a hang-tag advising that it must be
removed before we will pick up the
pile. Our program is only for green waste.
3. The length of brush, limbs and pruning should
not exceed 8 feet.
4. Piles need to be accessible to the City's
equipment, which includes a dump truck and backhoe. Do not place piles against fences, walls,
rocks, etc.
5. The cost is $40 for each
dump truck load, roughly 3 yards.
Generally, the Public Works Department offers pile pick
up for its residents for lawn & leaf debris only, twice
per year at no charge. Anything other than lawn & leaf
debris will have to be pre-paid, with the above rules
followed. Any questions may be directed to City Public
