Loans and Assistance Programs

The City of Sonora provides loans for housing assistance and business assistance.  To access the Programs’ Guidelines and Applications click on the following links:

 

Homebuyers’ Assistance Loan Program

As of November 28, 2012, the city of Sonora's Homebuyers Assistance Loan Program is on hold indefinitely due to a loss of funding .

Low-Income Homeowners’ Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program

This Program provides low-interest loans to low-income homeowners within the City of Sonora for needed home improvements, such as re-roofing, adding new heating/air systems, upgrading to energy efficient windows and doors or elimination of health/safety hazards. 

 

Deferred Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program

This Program provides low-interest rate loans to low-income senior or permanently disabled homeowners within the City of Sonora for needed home improvements.  These loans are deferred and monthly payments are not required.

Low-Income Rental Housing Rehabilitation Loan Program

This Program provides rehabilitation loans to property owners of rental units located within the City of Sonora . Units must be occupied by low-income households or be vacant. 

 

 

Microenterprise Assistance Program

The Microenterprise Assistance Program is designed to stimulate growth in small business within our community, and create new private enterprise jobs, thereby improving the economic conditions for all residents in the community. Technical assistance is available, as well as Micro Loans, to eligible persons starting a private for-profit business or expanding an existing business within the city limits of Sonora. 

The overall program goal is to provide specialized training and "one-on-one" technical assistance to eligible Microenterprises to assist in operating a successful business and/or expanding their business.

UP TO $3,000 PER MONTH FOR UNEMPLOYED HOMEOWNERS WHO ARE IN IMMINENT DANGER OF DEFAULTING ON THEIR HOME LOAN

FUNDS TO HELP HOMEOWNERS WHO HAVE FALLEN BEHIND ON THEIR MORTGAGE PAYMENTS DUE TO A TEMPORARY CHANGE IN A HOUSEHOLD CIRCUMSTANCE.  FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE FOR UP TO $15,000 PER HOUSEHOLD TO REINSTATE MORTGAGES TO PREVENT FORECLOSURES.

FUNDS TO REDUCE THE PRINCIPAL OWED ON A MORTGAGE FOR A HOMEOWNER FACING A SERIOUS FINANCIAL HARDSHIP.
